Hiring Jerrell was one of the best decisions my husband and I made during wedding planning. From the initial contact to random questions post event, he has been nothing but courteous, professional, and upbeat. Jerrell called us on the dot at the exact time he was supposed to and this punctuality continued throughout our entire process. During our initial consultation call, I had a whole list of questions. My husband was sold after about 30 seconds and wanted to get off the phone! I also really like him but wanted to make sure we made an informed decision, so we asked him all of our questions and spoke to one other photographer (who overslept and wasn't ready at the time he set to call... no thanks). We wanted to make sure whoever we booked had experience with shooting interracial couples and also would be a fun person to be around for the day.
Some of this is listed in his description but here's what set Jerrell apart from other wedding photographers I reached out to- 1. Super simple pricing structure (and MORE than fair pricing) 2. He stays to the END of your event. Period. No fake sparkler exits here! 3. He doesn't want you to lose the excitement of your wedding waiting for the photos- there will be a sneak peak slideshow AT your reception (postscript: I was having too much fun to sit still for long but the slideshow was beautiful and so fun) AND he will deliver your wedding gallery within a week of your event (I let him know to take longer if he wanted because we wouldn't have even unpacked suitcases or gifts at that point) 4. His photo package includes an additional shoot- either your engagement photos OR a bridal shoot. What you might not get from his Knot listing is the FUN and ENERGY Jerrell will bring to your event. Spoiler alert, just because it's your wedding day doesn't mean you and your fiance turn into models. Jerrell is awesome at lightening the mood, asking silly questions, and making everyone feel comfortable. Oh, and he's going to be dressed impeccably and end up on the dance floor. I loved hearing from my guests "your photographer was so fun" and "your photographer taught me The Wobble!"
I really thought as the bride I would feel like I was being followed by the photographer all night but honestly from the start of the reception I had no clue where he was most of the time, which was perfect! Jerrell can absolutely capture your typical wedding poses but I think his biggest strength is candid shots. We have so many wonderful (non staged) photos of us and our guests from the wedding that we absolutely love. I only had three specific poses to request because, after working with Jerrell on our engagement shoot, I knew I could trust him and would be better off not interfering with his creativity. Oh, and did I mention he even came to Dallas (home for us) for our engagement shoot? Rockstar service from start to finish. We were so happy with our decision to book Jerrell Trulove. The only thing I'm bummed about in relation to this vendor is that now that the wedding is over, we don't know when we will get to hang out with Jerrell again. Working with Jerrell is an absolute joy. He is professional, kind, and calm and turns around photos with pretty amazing speed. He shot our engagement and wedding and really nailed it. At one point in our wedding party photos he even went out of his way to move a heavy lamp to make the setting right - my maid of honor turned to me at the moment and said "wow - I really appreciate that attention to detail". We chose Jerrell Trulove to photograph our wedding after he donated some of his time to photograph a charity event in which we were involved. My wife noticed that he was all over the place, moving about to get all the angles without even being seen. Like magic, he’d appear in one corner and then the next, and his work product reflected this. We weren’t disappointed. What I discovered, which I didn’t know before our wedding, is that you’ll spend more time on your wedding day with your photographer than anyone other than your spouse. So you need someone more than just talented. You need someone who you’re happy to include in your day. Jerrell was just that. He was involved, but not too involved. He was a calming force and made our wedding day so much fuller. Just after the ceremony and before the reception, Jerrell told us he was going to take a little break. But he wasn’t. He went back into a room to put together a quick show of the best pictures from that day. He surprised us with these photos, which were put on an electronic display for our guests to enjoy. It was the type of little surprise that made our wedding so much better. Guests loved looking at some of the angles. I’m no photography expert. I don’t know about lines and angles and lighting and aperture. What I do know is that Jerrell captured the emotion of our day. From the ceremony to the beautiful nature of our wedding site, to the friends getting down and the band playing songs. He captured the big moments you’d expect—that snapshot of a first dance to frame over the mantle, but also moments you wouldn’t—your buttoned up uncle leading the band in a round of drinks. Jerrell’s work is as full of meaning and emotion as you would expect. After we met him, when he drove hours to take our engagement photos, we spent a few hours at dinner. I fell in love with his story and his drive. I knew we’d made the right choice then. And everything that followed showed we were right. Do yourself a favor and choose Jerrell. When my husband and I were planning our wedding, we knew that the photographer was going to be THE vendor we splurged on. I'm a super sentimental person (who honestly has a terrible memory) so it's vital to me to have moments captured with a camera to jog my memory and help me relive the best memories of my life. We had looked through countless photographer's websites and found great work - but nothing that captured the true "feeling" of a moment. Everything seemed so posed and staged, and not genuine or candid, unoriginal if you will. Then, we stumbled upon Jerrell Trulove's website (and I mean HOW PERFECT is that NAME?!). I was clicking through his galleries, and my husband walked by, glanced at the screen, and said, "THAT'S the one. I don't even know who it is or how much they cost, THAT is OUR photographer." I couldn't have agreed more. The feelings he managed to capture in his candid photos of couples and their families during their special day really made me feel as if I had been there and experienced those beautiful moments myself. Stunning. Then we read his philosophy about photography and how he treats each client - and I just found myself shaking my head YES in agreement with every single line of his 'about me'. We contacted him and we started a dialogue about our big day. He is SO personable, relaxed, and attentive. Professional beyond belief, but we also felt like we became friends almost immediately. He treated our big day as if he was just as emotionally invested in every step as we were. He was unobtrusive (but I'm sure would have been if we had asked). His bowtie game is always ON POINT. He made us feel so comfortable, made everyone feel so comfortable. The images he captured were perfect. Not staged at all, although he did give us those "posed pictures" if we wanted them (the line of all the family members - ya know - the traditional stuff). He captured every silly moment, and every heartfelt moment. I can't tell you enough how much he impressed me, and really just told our story better than I could have imagined - and we had a wedding with 200+ people! He even caught moments and details that I didn't even know existed, because c'mon, we all know that weddings are chaotic in the best way possible and there is no way you can see everything that's going on. He helped fill in the rest of the night for me when I couldn't be there. I can never, ever thank him enough. My husband and I are expecting a baby now, and there is no doubt in my mind that I'll be giving Jerrell a call for those pictures. He's affordable, professional, and such a down-to-earth man. My venue was a serious challenge bc it was super dark and Jerrell was able to make it look like it was just like any other space which couldn’t have been easy to do. Jerrell was tremendous during our engagement photo shoot. It was the first time my now-husband and I had ever gotten professional pictures taken. We were so nervous, and afraid to look "fake" or "awkward", but Jerrell made the whole experience so fun! The pictures came out so great, that we invited Jerrell to also take our wedding pictures for our friends-only wedding, and family-only wedding. He was so flexible and accommodating with our short-notice request, and manage to take lovely photos of my husband and I, as well as our loved ones. We ended up with Jerrell by true happenstance and it ended up being one of the best decisions for our wedding. He was so kind and accommodating and really made the day what we wanted. My husband did not want a photographer to “boss everyone around” like he had seen at so many other weddings. We wanted the physical photo memories but wanted to live in the moment as much as possible without having to worry if we were standing correctly for the photographer. My husband communicated that to him and wow did Jerrell deliver!! When getting ready and during the ceremony, we honestly didn’t even notice him. We only knew how much he was moving after we watched our ceremony video, he went around guests to make sure he wasn’t in their way either. Not only was he respectful of everyone but so fast! Before the end of dinner, he had all the getting ready, ceremony, and wedding party pictures ready to be viewed by anyone who wanted to see! Our guests were absolutely amazed! Speaking of quick, all 800+ of our pictures were done and sent to us THREE days after the wedding. I have friends that were promised 6-8 weeks and were still waiting after three months.
